DNF. Just really boring. I didn't like the MC. Skipped ahead to the end. The twist probably would have been good.

This wasn't it. There are plenty of other Final Girls based books out now and this one falls short

Narration: 4/5
Story 1/5

4 stars for the entertaining reading experience. It started out as more of a 3, but around 60% it grabbed my attention. Next thing I know, it's 2am and I've finished the book ;) The twists caught me by surprise...

I enjoyed this book! It wasn’t perfect, but it was fun and twisty. If you like horror flicks like Scream, this is an enjoyable read.

I will say… The middle was a bit boring. It dragged when Quincy was following along with all of Sam’s destruction and not much was happening. I also called one of the twists in chapter 29, too.

But overall, this was a good read and I’ll definitely read more by Sager!

It was pretty good from start to finish. My only qualm with this book is how Quincy did some real cringy things. If you can stomach that, this is a good mystery-thriller with horror movie vibes that will keep you engaged.

People say the beginning was slow but in my opinion the pacing is just delicious. The beginning allows you to get to know Quinn, Sam, and the other characters a bit better and set up stuff for later. Then the action comes, and then the big reveal.

Also, people love getting on Riley Sager’s ass for how he writes women. I personally think it’s good. There ARE some women out there who call everyone “babe.” That’s not unrealistic!

SPOILERS START HERE

So the cringy stuff that Quincy did include:
- Beat up a random homeless guy in the park
- Destroy the evidence found at Lisa’s place
- Sleep with Coop (!!!)

Man, I did not want Coop to be the bad guy, even though in retrospect not saying anything about your own life makes you highly suspicious. I will say I did not see it coming. When he was confessing everything like how he was in love with her, how he had a problem with killing, how proud he was to create a Final Girl, I was so disgusted. All in all, ACAB!!

But even without knowing he’s the bad guy, WHY would she sleep with him??? That’s your father figure, protector, and friend, dammit! And that caused her marriage to break with Jeff, even though without the cheating he’d probably leave anyway.

It’s cute that Tina and Quincy stayed friends. I liked it for the story’s sake, but I don’t think I could ever forgive someone for putting me through so much even though she helped dig up a lot of memories.

I was kinda crushing on Joe Hannen and I never crush on murderers, so I’m glad he’s actually innocent. Something about him, an awkward nerd, being the only nice friend at the cabin... just speaks to my soul.

This book is set to be a movie. With the whole “Is Sam really who she says she is?” plot I’m not really sure how that would work. I’m interested in seeing what they create, but I’m almost certain it wouldn’t be as good as the book. You need lots of plot for a story like this, but I’m willing to bet it’ll be centred on the horror. Saying the book > the movie here is not to be elitist, because for The Last Time I Lied I could actually see it as a good TV show, on par with the book.
