Almost as good as book 1. Wish Dekker had kept the series at 3.

This book 2 of the 'Eyes Wide Open' series got my heart beating fast and I am now officially confused. This book is truly mind bending.⁣

Are Christy and Austin a figment of Alice's and Scott's imagination?⁣

Who then is the other lady supposedly called Alice?⁣

This mental hospital seems like a cover up.

Now that Austin has killed the Director of admissions, what next? ⁣

Definitely looking forward to reading the Book 3.⁣

There's a little more character development in this "episode," but not a lot. It was pretty exciting, as are all Dekker's fiction books, but I am still having a hard time accepting a lot of what Dekker says goes on in a psych ward. He's making it out to be a terrible place where they kill patients, do lobotomies, etc., and I'm sorry, but that's not realistic.

I really like Christy and Austin, and I can resonate with both of them, but somehow they seem to be... caricatures of actual people. For example, Christy is overemotional. And Austin is obsessed with intelligence and "finding answers." I mean, in the first "episode," he is auditing a graduate level philosophy course, and he's 17 - and he's topping the grad students' answers to the professor's questions with his own. What kind of uber smart 17 year old who doesn't have a family and doesn't have a job would be auditing a class at an Ivy League school?

I don't really know what I think of this "series" thus far. It's a little disappointing, I won't lie. Dekker's books are usually a little more grounded in reality than this one is. I mean, yes, they're usually slightly off from actually being realistic (if you've read more of Dekker's work, you will know what I mean), but... this one just doesn't cut it for being among his best work. Do your research into psych wards, dude.

Yea! Finally good Christian fiction!

Okay, so I suppose I was right Dekker was just warming up in Book 1! This book had a good amount of action, and was laden with psychological intrigue, which brought mystery to it as well. The plotline flowed beautifully. Dekker does entertaining work for a novella. Clean story, as is that it's Christian genre. And this particular installment has a good and shocking ending. I usually don't read Christian fiction, because I feel it lacks quality, but this a great one for it's genre.

Here in the second episode of Eyes Wide Open, the story is starting to take shape. Our heroes are beginning to have an identity crisis. They have been mistaken for patients in a mental ward and they are trying everything to get back to the lives hey knew. The story appears to be bringing us to think about the difference between how we see ourselves and how others see us. As with the first episode, it is difficult to give a full review until the story is finished.
