This is the second part to Emma and Ryan's story. This book picks up right where the first left off. After a night of passion, Emma takes off and Ryan realizes he isn't the only one looking for her, because she's been kidnapped. With the help of his team mate Jake they cover as much ground as they can in order to figure out where she's been taken and what it has to do with the plane crash. Will they find her in time?

This second half of their story is just as action packed as the first. I enjoyed these two characters and would love to learn more about them because this book just kind of ends. There were also some loose ends left like her relationship with her father, and seeing Jake again at the end. I enjoyed the book but just felt there were some holes left in the story.

Edge of Surrender is part 2 of the Alpha Crew series that began with At the Edge, I highly recommend reading the first book before reading part 2.

Ryan is searching for Emma who was kidnapped and using everything he has to find her before she is killed for what she knows after the plane crash in At the Edge. With the help of his crew teammate, Jake, and now Alexa, a FBI agent who may have answers to everything, Ryan and Emma go on the run trying to escape the persons responsible for the crash, kidnapping, and why the ambassador's wife was killed. When they finally give into their feelings, you'll have to fan yourself as its that HOT.

All the questions from At the Edge will be answered but it will take you by surprise as to why and who shot down the airplane that Emma was on and when it does Emma realizes she knows more than she thinks because she was the assistant to the ambassadors wife.

I hope that there will be more in the series especially Jake and Alexa's story. Both of these books were high action and held your interest to the very end, I highly recommend reading these books by Ms. Griffin.

Laura Griffin is one of my go to authors and I know I can count on her to write a well written suspenseful romance. I have read all her books but my favorite is her Tracers series; if you haven't read them yet, you should give them a try. So I was excited to learn she has a new series revolving around an ultra-elite Seal team. The first two books in her new Alpha Crew series are action packed, filled with intrigue and I was on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next.

EDGE OF SURRENDER is the second book in Laura Griffin’s new Alpha Crew series. It continues with Ryan and Emma’s story. Ryan Owen is a big, tough, protective and he is willing to do anything to keep Emma Wright safe. He is the leader of the Alpha Crew And they are sent to rescue Emma, when the helicopter she is in crashes in the jungle. From the moment Ryan sees Emma, he is intrigued, frustrated and attracted to her. Emma has learned she can’t trust anyone, until she meets Ryan. Protecting others is all Ryan knows and he doesn’t understand why Emma is constantly challenging him. Ryan is all alpha male and he expects Emma to follow his orders so he can keep her safe, but Emma is independent and willful and has learned she can only rely on herself. I liked Ryan and Emma together and there is a lot of chemistry sizzling between them. They both have independent spirits and are good together.

Ryan and the men he works with are a close knit group. After working on dangerous missions and training together they have learned to trust each other completely and they know they can count on each other, whatever the circumstances. I loved all the guys on the Alpha Crew and found them highly entertaining. I hope to read each of their stories in future books in this series.

The only problem I had with this story was the ending. It felt abrupt and wasn't satisfied. Yes, there is a HEA, but I wanted more details on how Ryan and Emma work everything out. I still enjoyed these first two books in Laura Griffin’s new series and can't wait to read more. This is a great start to a new series.

What the hell was that?!

As a consumer, I expect that when I buy a book, I get a whole book. You know, one with a beginning, a middle, and an end. Even if there's a cliffhanger ending, I should still feel like I got one, complete story, but that there are just more stories left to tell about these characters.

As a voracious reader of romance novels, I am generally look for declarations of love and happily ever after at the end of a book (or at least a solid HFN in the case of a cliffhanger).

I got none of these things from the first novel in this series, At the Edge.

I was irritated, but I soldiered on and started the next book in the series - this book.

Now, this should come as a shock to exactly no one, but as a fan of romantic suspense novels, I'm looking for romance and suspense when I pick up this type of novel. I want bullets flying, people running down alleys and making death defying leaps off of tall structures, characters working within or outside of the law - whatever gets the job done for our heroes and heroines - and I want this sense of danger to lend itself to a sense of closeness and urgency for our characters that make them want to rip each other's clothes off and get it on under improbable circumstances.

I will give credit where credit is due, and say that Edge of Surrender delivered on all of that.

I will even say that the characters HFN was solid enough to appease me.

But where I had a serious "are you fucking kidding me?!" moment was when the author resolved the entire suspense plot off page using secondary characters while our heroes were laid up with injuries. The whole thing was tidied up in a paragraph or two. And while it all made sense and there was no jumping the shark feats of screwed up logic to get us there, it was intensely dissatisfying.

Honestly, I've read a lot of Laura Griffin's work in the past, and it's usually much better than this. I recommend fans of her work stick to the Tracers series and avoid this ho-hum outing.

An enjoyable conclusion to the story, which kicks off when Emma is kidnapped and Ryan and Jake scramble to find any trace of what has happened to her and then continues as they try to find evidence of who really was behind the Plane crash over the Philippines in which only Emma survived. However I did feel the story stilled at times, especially when the action was just getting going and I was expecting a big confrontation towards the end. Which sadly didn't happen, but overall I did enjoy the story. It was a quick and easy read, with extremely likable characters and I would love to read more of them in the future, especially if the story were to revolve around Jake and FBI Agent Alexa Mays, and I would happily recommend this story to other readers.

I received a free copy of this novella from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

At the end of the first part of this two-part story Ryan and Emma had spent the night at a safe house after Emma had survived several attempts to kill her. After they had shared a steamy night Ryan had done the standard alpha-male-in-a-novel move and told Emma it must never happen again, with an added twist of humiliation and Emma had escaped from the safe house only to disappear.

This second part of the story was all action-packed as Emma tries to escape her kidnappers and Ryan and his team search desperately to find her. Laura Griffin knows how to write a chase scene that has you gripping your Kindle as though you are on a white knuckle ride.

Sadly though, that's where the good news ends for me. I really don't understand why the story was released in a two-part format, the second part 'felt' much shorter, perhaps because it was action-filled rather than build up, and the plot appeared to be an after-thought. I have a rather dismal suspicion that the story was released in two parts simply so that the prologue to the first book acts as a teaser.

Anyway, two days after reading the second part whilst I recall who was trying to kill Emma I still don't really understand why - this is a common bug-bear with these type of books, the villains go to great lengths to kill someone for something that they actually had no suspicions about. Also, I thought that the villains went to extraordinary lengths to silence Emma, it was disproportionate. There was a lot of set up surrounding Emma's father which ultimately just petered out and seemed like a waste of storyline.

The lure for me with this genre of fiction is the plot and unfortunately I didn't find the plot to be more than an afterthought to the romance between Ryan and Emma, indeed everything was wrapped up very quickly off-stage as a bit of an afterthought.

I think this would have worked better for me as a single novella, cut out some of the romance and tighten the suspense.

Overall, a disappointing start to a new series. I will probably read the second in the series to see whether it is the genre that doesn't work for me or whether it was my dislike of the main character, Ryan, which soured my view of the story as a whole. But I will definitely be continuing with Laura Griffin's Tracers series which is much grittier and centres loosely around a high-tech crime lab.
