I was so surprised to see the low rating for this book on Goodreads - I thoroughly enjoyed this! I listened to this as an audiobook and didn’t find myself losing interest at any stage. I felt the storyline held my attention well, and it had me guessing the ending over and over, not once being correct (which I enjoy!), and I didn’t find any part of this predictable - in the best way. In my opinion, the main character’s physical and mental response to sexual assault was captured perfectly, was validating, and not romanticised AT ALL (like so many other books do, unfortunately). The plot twists were unexpected and enjoyable, and I strongly recommend this for anyone looking for a good thriller / mystery!

Parts of the book were engaging but over all the story dragged on, was confusing at times and the writing style was frustrating to me. If you like learning there is shocking information but having to wait ages to know what it is then you will enjoy the book.

Trigger warning: sexual assault, rape and drinking issues

  • Rose is the day editor for a big news paper and has never met her opposite - Will - the night worker. One night she goes out with her partner Patrick to their friend where ROse gets very drunk, the next morning she arrives at work to find out Will never turned up for his shift. police seem very interested in Rose, and for good reason a note was discovered on her desk reading - ask Rose. this along side the fact she had received a call from Will the night before but doesn’t remember puts her in a difficult position. Will she tell any one, what was the call about and who did this? ZDoug, her boss, asks Rose to take on the night shift where she uncovers the truth about herself, willow and their connection

I enjoyed parts of this book but ultimately it left me with a few questions and confused bout how things happened

This book left me with rather mixed feelings to be honest!
It's an intriguing read, with some great twists and turns.
However it's also a difficult read (I'd suggest there needs to be a trigger warning for SA) not just due to the subject it tackles, but with the way it is written. It's sometimes a little hard to know whose narrative you're reading (one very small part in particular - but unsure if that's due to it being an arc)
I understand why the main character acts the way she does - but it makes it difficult to root for her at times. It's also frustrating to read at times - there's things constantly alluded to - snippets of information she's apparently been told, yet it takes forever for us to find out what that thing actually is!
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc ebook.
