At first I thought it was just snippets of people‘s stories connected to Gilead in some way (as a bit of a fanservice to fans of the show). I didn’t mind that it was not directly linked to the characters of the first book. After some time a clearer story evolved, which I really liked and felt kind of invested in. The narrators did a beautiful job and the author again did a beautiful job in elaborating on this world.

an amazing sequel! It’s not directly after the Handmaid’s tale and not in her perspective either, but in turn you learn about a newer cast of characters who are equally interesting — including Aunt Lydia! such a complex and inspiring character.

A little bit disappointing. Not bad. I did enjoy it and I was glad to hear more about Gilead, but I would expect way more from Atwood. This felt almost like a sell-out. I get it, money grabs are sometimes necessary, but they don’t always make for great literature.

crazy story, really fun to get through and try to solve everything
only things are at some points to so hard to read because of some pretty violent situations as well as a lot of triggering content
if the content won’t trigger you absolutely read it

Phenomenal tribute/ending to the Handmaid’s Tale. I love the closure Atwood has given us. The surprises with each character. You will find yourself wondering where things are going until the very end. Hard to put the book down. You will morn characters. Cheer for characters. Hate characters. So many emotions. Fans of the Handmaid’s tale you won’t regret reading this. And The Hulu series has not touched anything this book is covering as it is 15 years after the Handmaid’s Tale book left June.
