Yellow Jessamine by Caitlin Starling

5.0

Exactly what I hoped it would be--fast-paced, seething, with a number of twists that were manageable within the length while keeping things interesting. Our heroine was by turns vicious and unlikable, then displaying believable weaknesses despite her power. I like my stories gay, gothic, and grievously short, and though I could have certainly stood a longer form with more explanation about the world, the methodology of magic, and the external backstories of more characters, I think it absolutely accomplishes what it set out to and I will be curious to delve further into Neon Oleander Press' offerings as they grow.
