I am so so sad to be giving this book only 2 stars. It hurts because I liked the first book and this one had SO much potential that I really feel like was completely squandered.
The whole entire book is filler. There is essentially no relevant plot to the overall story until literally the last 10 pages. Now that would be fine if we learned more about the world or more about the characters but sadly I’m still not 100% clear on how the magic works in this world, know nothing more about the other Londons, and all the characters feel extremely flat to me. 500+ pages of nothing. How did I read that many pages and gained nothing in plot, character development, or setting? The only thing I liked was getting some time as a pirate and I still like the vibes and atmosphere of the story.
It’s making me think maybe it should have been a duology? I mean seriously you can cut out this entire book and put what happened at the end of this one at the beginning of the next one and just have two tighter books. Not sure though because I haven’t read the third one yet and idk if I will after how disappointed I was in this one
