Poe: Stories and Poems by Gareth Hinds

5.0

I've been a fan of Poe since 8th grade in middle school, and Hinds does wonderful graphic novel adaptations. His choice of illustrations, style, and color schemes amp up the mood of the selected stories and poems. The Poe checklist and its symbols give a good preview of what to expect for each work. My favorite parts of this collection are the endings given to "The Tell-Tale Heart" and "The Raven" as well as the narrator choice in "The Raven". Previously, I've read Hinds's graphic adaptation of "Beowulf" and found that to be a little text heavy at times and lacking pertinent text at others. This adaptation has a great balance of text and images to graphically portray Poe's works.
