The back and forth switching between past and present put me off a bit. I get the intent of trying to tell a story from two points in time and converge them for a big finish but it did not feel to me that that aspect was written particularly well.
But, it was nice to read the behind-the-scenes of cricketers, and contrary to all the fandom, they’re just regular people at the end of the day wanting to make a living and live a normal life, which invariably comes with a lot of ups and downs. And the mental health aspect was honed in a lot which makes a lot of sense. At the professional level, that definitely feels (speaking as a spectator) to be a big differentiator.
