This was one of the best books I've read, like, ever. Another reviewer described the book as evoking "feminine rage," and that's the best way to put it. All of the feelings that have been stuffed inside of women practically since we're born--the sadness and anger and outrage and heartache--at the treatment of women is brought to the surface in this story. Miller's writing made me cry, made me pissed, and made me feel so connected to other women, all while sitting alone in my chair and reading her story. Truly, one of the best writer's of our generation, I'll read anything else she writes forever. Notably, a very difficult read, but a necessary one.

This was such a powerful, revolutionary memoir, and listening to it read by Chanel was so moving. I am hopeful that society is moving in a direction where victims do not have to go nearly as far as Chanel did to receive appropriate justice. I am also hopeful that these acts of violence can continue to be intercepted by community and looking out for each other. Believe victims, and believe women.

This is possibly the best book I have ever read. I started this book without truly knowing what it was about, and I finished it in tears, feeling inspired. This book is painful, beautiful, heavy, and encouraging, and everyone should read this. The small moments of hope in the Swedes who saved Chanel, the doorwomen of her apartment, the old man on the bench, Alaleh, Tiffany, Lucas, and Chanel's own voice reading the audiobook were a comforting hug in a book riddled with trauma. I will never stop recommending this book to anyone I ever meet.
