Revelation. Revolt. Revision. Resung.

I can not bring to words how much I needed this book, these stories retold, at this moment in my life... My beautiful mythical friend, Mika, who has passed 1 year ago to the month, would've absolutely adored this book. And I read these stories in honor of her name and memory.

Wake Siren is absolutely the spiritual sister to Francesca Lia Block's classics retelling in Ecstasia and Primavera and Love in the Time of Global Warming and others.

Do yourself a favor and pair this reading with Warpaint's 2014 self-titled album.

Eternally grateful to Nina MacLaughlin. You've helped me travel down a path I haven't taken since relearning Ovid in my first year at college through Mandelbaum's translation. Thank you.

Raw and brutal. As expected, lots of rape stories that halfway through, the stories started sounding the same. And the author has this love of starting a question with "dont you know?" to the point that different characters on different stories felt like a single character.

These are short mythological lord written from the females POV. Ie Medusa’s side of the story. Very big f you to the patriarchy and those using woman as pawns in their play pin.

It was very well written but incredibly triggering for me. It is not an anthology for the light hearted.
