This book had me so enthralled. It took a bit to get into, but when I got hooked, I was all in. This has mystery, magic, and a lot of truly deep thoughts and exploration of power. I loved the reimagining of technology as a function of people and their will. The use of Will as the key driver to talk about how we interact with power, policy, and economy, really had me enraptured. Loved this book and I’m so excited to get to read the next!

Booklist mentioned that this was reminiscent of Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson but refreshingly quick paced and I could not agree more. This had everything I wanted in a book (excellent characters, world, and an engaging and quick moving plot) and nothing I didn’t (weird creatures, over-explaining literally everything)

Usually I hesitate to recommend books this size but yeah, this was a 10/10, and is on the shortlist of my favorite books of all time.

Very unique world building and it really teases at a lot more going on beneath the surface that presumably we'll discover in the rest of the series. MC manages not to veer completely into being too overpowered due to his rage and grief. Interesting array of characters. Very mysterious plot that will keep you guessing and trying to puzzle things out. Very much looking forward to the rest of the series coming out.

Very interesting concept, but I feel like the world building was not clear. The ending was a bit confusing as well. I will read the next one when it comes out.
