I really enjoyed this book! The world was so creative and I loved the magic system that we got to see. This book took me through a rollercoaster of events and revelations. I'm really intrigued to see where the rest of the series goes as this first book was completely different from what I expected when I picked it up.

Read this in one sitting and I honestly don’t know how. A lot of reviews says that you have to look at the bigger picture, see: read all the books, but I don’t know if I have it in me to continue.

Interested enough to read more. It did take about half the book before I started to feel invested though.

This book was amazing there is definitely a slow burn romance going on looking forward to where that goes I liked both the characters and the story. I loved all of the characters so much but I especially love Ophelia she is a interesting character she is strong willed she cares about many people and does not like her current situation she adapts pretty well despite I am also looking forward to where her and Thorn goes from here even if it is not so great so far. The plot is interesting it starts with an interesting character named Ophelia doing what she does not liking that she now has an arranged marriage other things happen she meets the one she is to marry Thorn he does not give a very good first impression things happen they leave for his home after that other not do great things happen Ophelia does not like what is going on so by the end she takes a different choice looking forward to where everything goes from here.

I wanted to relate to and become more emotionally attached to Ophelia and Thorn, but Dabos made it really hard to connect to them. The four stars is more for the world that she's created and the magic system, which I found fascinating. You have powers like Aunt Rosaline, who has an affinity to paper and fixes books, which is so benign and lovely, but then there's Knight's terrifying ability
Spoilerof controlling minds at a whim and retaliation
.

I'm not surprised, introverted as she is, how some of Ophelia's actions or reactions to a world that's unlike anything she's known seem kinda... stupid? Thorn, goodness knows, is of no help whatsoever, which was just mean in my books.

SpoilerMy inner trashy romance side was on tenterhooks to see how Thorn would express his affection to Ophelia (because honestly, we all expect them to fall in love) and was kind of left disappointed that the closest he came was something along the lines of getting use to her. I thought, well I guess it's the first book - can't go too quick with the romantic stuff, gotta leave some for later.

Second book please - I need more of this world.

One of the best books I've ever read! Hoping the rest of the series is equally as riveting!

This book was so underwhelming. The writing was somewhat bland, but not as bland as the main characters. I really want to love Ophelia and Thorn, but it’s difficult. I plan on finishing the series, since I’ve seen so much hype about it, but I’m honestly not impressed.
