Euhm, my least favorite book by Akemi Dawn Bowman so far but still really good.

I loved the main character Harley and all the geeky references she used. Marvel, Pokémon, Star Wars, Disney, probably forgetting some, it was really fun.

I loved her romance with Vaz and her friendship with her two roommates she meets at the circus (and I love that Harley stayed in contact with them after leaving the circus).

I absolutely loved this book, and I’m quite sad that I finished it already.
Harley is such an amazing, real character and I could relate to her feelings and that really meant something to me. I also adore books that involves a circus, and a cast of great characters! Can’t wait for the release of this amazing book on March 10, 2020

*I received an earc, but all opinions are my own!

I just adore the way Akemi Dawn Bowman writers her characters. I needed these characters when I was 17 and 18. I've highlighted so many quotes in this book. Such a beautiful story! I relate to her characters on such a personal level.

Achingly human and equally inspiring. Bonus points for accurate representation of demisexuality, mania, and depression.

Honestly, if this book got more into depth about Harley’s — and to an extent, her mother’s — depression, I probably would have liked it more. The majority of the time, Harley was a self-absorbed, self-pitying, whiny brat. I didn’t get into her mental health until three-fourths of the book, and while the “incident” in November had been mentioned here and there, we never really get into it.

And once again with the obligatory love interest. It was like Vas and Harley should be together because he’s a guy and she’s a girl. He’s the mysterious brooding type, and so she goes gaga over him, which is a normal thing, don’t get me wrong. But there was no build-up of romantic tension, hardly any chemistry. They steal glances at one another, and boom, instalove. And seriously, the reason Vas gives for liking Harley…she’s basically like Maggie, but because Harley’s the MC, it’s okay?

As for Maggie, she was probably more interesting than Harley. Her quitting was *so* convenient.

Harley in the Sky is vibrant, magical, and full of heart - but what Akemi Dawn Bowman book isn't? I was whisked away into Harley's world from page one, and the story completely subverted my expectations in the best way possible. A gorgeous book about passion, mental illness, and family.

Diversity note: Harley is Multiracial (Italian, Japanese, Chinese and Irish) and has an undiagnosed mental illness

Warnings: Depictions of depression
