I’m just not of the sexual vulgarity vibe (and I didn’t expect it when I bought this). All essays aren’t this, but enough are. I’m also always annoyed with “old age starts at 30/40” kind of humor (and there’s a lot of that in here) and do not find that relatable. Continuing to perpetuate that is damaging IMO, it isn’t true, and it really doesn’t help anyone have a better, healthier, or happier life. Life isn’t over or degrading when you’re 30/40. Life is just beginning! I can see how this author is liked for their directness and ability to put words on paper that represent very real thoughts and experiences many people have everyday. And I know plenty of people enjoy sexually vulgar comedy and also honestly believe they are old at 30/40. I bought 3 from this series at once, and I may take my chance on a second one and see if it’s more in my lane.

Just too much gross stuff for me, but she’s funny and it would absolutely be great for the right kind of reader.

Had to skip a lot of this because of how gross it was. TMI.

This is the first Samantha Irby book I read and I want to read more!

Funny and real, these short stories are a nice light read.

If you’re a Sex and the City fan, there’s a great chapter for you.

If you have lots of body ailments, this will be really relatable.

I literally laughed out loud for a solid 10 seconds at “what if I died like Elvis”

If Irby writes it I will read it. She covers some similar terrain here to her first three collections but now there is SATC content and more middle age malaise (love). Irby to me is that funny sweet spot where she’s hilarious and crass while being tender and true. She’ll make you pee your pants and then break your heart. It’s such a winning combo.
