This is the first Quantum Leap book Iā€™ve read. Itā€™s not particularly well-written; at times itā€™s actually sort of hard to follow. Iā€™m not sure that Rawn really does a very good job capturing the charactersā€™ voices either. That said, overall I enjoyed reading this. Itā€™s fun reading a QL book at all, and the beginning chapters do a great job of mimicking the format of the television show, including the cold open and voiceover narration. Itā€™s cool that Alia, the ā€œEvil Leaperā€, is in this book. And I donā€™t know if itā€™s canon but in the latter parts of the book thereā€™s a lot of stuff about the ā€œfutureā€ (1999), including a lot from Samā€™s wife Donnaā€™s POV. I loved reading that stuff, as well as the technical stuff about how Leaping works, with the host inhabiting a hologram of Samā€™s body in the future, which mirrors his actual body which is encased in a hologram of the hostā€™s body in the past. Itā€™s super intriguing to think about. Apparently Sam can cut his own hair, but because he canā€™t actually see himself he sort of butchers it. When he does this, the image of ā€œhimā€ in the waiting room changes to have a haircut, too.

Anyway, this isnā€™t the height of literature by any means, but for a Quantum Leap fan itā€™s fun. It made me want to go back and watch some of the episodes referenced (ā€œDeliver Us From Evilā€, ā€œThe Leap Backā€). Theyā€™re so good. If nothing else the book reminds me how much I like the show.

I liked the show, I honestly only read this because i found it in a dollar bin and wondered what she was so busy with she couldn't finish the Ambrai series.Ā
