At first I was very much like here we go with the bull. But the writing and the way this story unfolded and came together was quite interesting. I’ve been getting more and more into historical fiction in 2023. This little nugget was great. The way these Black men in the community would show up for Ella, even without her realizing it, was everything. Ella and Mr Macabe’s relationship kept my heart full this entire story. Definitely adding this to my physical library.
