I feel like this quote alone is enough for everyone to understand how cringe this book was. You’ll hear “baby” over a million times & it just feels so unauthentic for teenagers. I almost added it to my DNF list but I couldn’t bear to ruin my book streak lmao. I also listened to the audiobook and I must warn you to never ever listen to that. I had to listen to 4 different accents for 2 characters. 🙃

This is almost as bad as A Little Life. I was abused, I have not cried this hard in months.
The book is very evidently YA, especially from the way it is written, and from the unrealistic portrayal of the relationship, but I loved it nonetheless. The pain this book caused me will require therapy.

They captured my heart since the beginning of their story. Reading this as someone who will be turning 20 this year and has not been romantically involved with anyone in years, their love made my heart ache for the teenage loved I never achieved. Being so young, yet capable of loving someone so completely and genuinely and having that love returned to you tenfold is a rare treasure. I teared up in the beginning, cried in the middle, and bawled at the end. I will admit being a 19 year old, there were times I felt uncomfortable reading about their love at 15 and 17 as I no longer saw myself with the same young innocence as them. Thankfully it was never taken too far. There were at points, where I grew tired of reading how every kissed they shared felt or how it was achieved. Just me, yet again feeling uncomfortable about reading 17 year olds shove their tongues down each other’s throats. But I do understand their importance, hence the book’s name, “A Thousand Boy Kisses”. It did genuinely bother me how cold hearted Rune was towards his papa, though I fully understood his hurt, I also understood that his father was ultimately not responsible for his job’s decisions and could not throw his source of income away to let his son stay with his girlfriend. *spoiler* I was extremely happy when Rune opened his heart back up to him. *spoiler* Admittedly, I was sad that Rune died so young, I wished he lived longer but I had a hunch he would never live a long life after Poppy died. He loved her too much to be away from her so long. This was a sad, but good read. A story of two young souls, who shared a love for each other that people spend their entire lifetime searching for.

“Why be miserable when you can be happy?”
Forever always. For infinity.
Been a long while since I’ve actually shed tears over a book. Inside a clothing store, no less. In Fukuoka, Japan. During our last day of the trip.
I knew coming in this story that it is a sad story. I just didn’t know that it was a devastating one. I got spoiled when I read the synopsis of the second book but it was not really a spoiler because you’ll know about it after the first quarter of the book. I felt their love for one another. How unfair life can be to separate this couple who are clearly meant to be. Soulmates. The journey the two of them took upon at such a young age. I just wanted to be there for them both.
Sometimes, when you read romances such as this, you tend to question your standards because you read about these fictional characters and how much they show love to one another. How can they love so much at that young age? That’s what I was thinking this whole read. Is it really possible for a couple to be in love this much during their teens? To feel so lost if one has moved to a different country? Apparently, it is possible. This book showed me that. Although I have not been in this situation, it makes me wonder if I would be such if this happened to me and my partner.
It’s such an enlightening story as well as we think about life and death. Poppy herself question why people rush to do things they could have done when they had the time. You really don’t know what would happen in the future. You really just have to say yes to new adventures.

The writing style definitely falls within the YA genre and lacks depth in this regard. However, the plot itself is beautiful, the characters lovable and if you need a good cry (without wading through major trauma) this is the book to pick up.

Have a large box of tissues ready. This book may break you. I don’t think I’ve ever cried this much or so hard over a book in my life. A beautiful, but heart wrenching story that I’ll never forget.
