It was a very interesting story, but I found the ending very disappointing. It felt like a lot of build up for kind of nothing. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it, except for the ending

An incredible storyteller. The writing was simple and effective, and didn’t distract from the plot. If I read it last year it would have been in my top 5.

A slow simmering story about a girl who through her drawing of a horse, changes the lives of the people who befriend her.
This was a slow read for me as I wasn’t as captivated by it as others. It was a great story and I enjoyed the characters. I found it almost melodic and that may have lulled me into a slower pace in reading it.
I liked how the book goes back and forth from past to present. I enjoyed the character development and the way we learn about each one and what motivates them without villainizing them.
All in all a good read.

A pleasant surprise - this came in one of my Sweet Read Boxes and the jacket copy really did not appeal to me. Once I got into it (i.e. once we headed back to Otter Lake) I sunk right in and really enjoyed the unfolding story. The magical element wasn't overwhelming, it was just the right level to really set the story apart and make it something special.

Beautifully written, the prose was just a joy to read. I thought the story was well paced and engaging. Taylor did an amazing job showing the range of emotions from joy to anguish to hope.
