I’m SO mad at this book. Everything that was established in book 1 was destroyed in this book. The characterization was so different that I felt like I was reading about completely different characters.

I cannot stand Daphne and Himari. Horrible people. Ethan is also trash.
Nina - you know better!
Beatrice and Teddy forever.
Samantha and Marshall forever.
This was in some regards better than the first book, but also not totally as fun and exciting, largely because Daphne continues to get away with everything when she's actually a criminal.... so there's that.
I'm enjoying the evolution of Beatrice and Teddy, as well as Samantha and Marshall.... but the real win of this book is Samantha and Beatrice. I love a good sister bonding.
Also wouldn't everything be solved if people just.... communicated?

This book ruined the way I see “American Royals” the author had an amazing opportunity to make this book awesome. But no. She completely destroyed it for me.

It's a middle book. I think that the biggest complaint you can really have about this one is it's just a total remix of relationships. All the conflict set up in book one is just put on shuffle for this book. It feels very much like a TV series type of set up more than a romance book, and I can see that frustrating people. I think it's because it's book 2/4 and therefore is just setting up foils and conflicts that will be played out over the next two books (who do they really love? what is their growth really about? etc).

That said, I read it in less than 2 days. I find the switching POVs fun and very readable. Some of the romances I really liked and would read a whole book on. Some of them I found boring. The problem with a book with so many characters is that you don't get ENOUGH of any one thing and sometimes you find yourself resenting the thing you're reading cause it's taking pages from the one you want to read.

This review sounds really negative, but for a middle series YA AU romance, it's great. I'd watch it. I am enjoying it AT LEAST as much as I loved OG Gossip Girls. Would watch a CW show based on this 10000%.

I already started book 3, btw, even though book 4 isn't until AUGUST. So, if you know a way to get me an ARC, I'm in. But otherwise, I am going to see this one till the end. It's a good pallet cleanser between hard books and all around fun.

The first book was better, IMO. I hope there’s more books in this series though because I love imagining the American monarchy. So fun!

The second book was not as good as the first. The whole love story between Beatrice and Conner just ended and this new thing with teddy started and it was just not as good.

This is such a fun series. It is not hard to imagine George Washington becoming the 1st king of America instead of the 1st president. In this Alternative History, the Washington's are still on the throne. King George IV has just died and left his eldest daughter as queen. Queen Beatrice is pushed into an engagement with Teddy, her younger sister's first love. There is family drama, friend drama, court drama, and lots of pomp and circumstance. A very fun, escapist, read.
