I read this on a recommendation from a friend and dove in without checking the trigger warnings first. YIKES. 

So I was not prepared for the subject matter. It was also copaganda which isn’t up my alley. 

That being said, the narrator was excellent. The plot was really solid, the subplots were also good. The main character’s romantic relationships (past and present) were my least favorite part I think. 

This is a murder mystery/crime drama/serial killer story but it’s also about racism in the South, grief, family stuff, religious trauma, and more. I think the writer is talented and smart.

Not for me. The prose was way too flowery and over the top. This book could have easily been half the length. Very difficult to finish.

This was so dark and twisted but so layered. Definitely not for the faint of heart. I loved it and was genuinely creeped out. I would love to see this turned into a movie.

This book was intense, and at times I forgot that I was reading a work of fiction and not a true crime book because of the depth of details.

This book needs a SERIOUS trigger warning for child murder, child sexual assault, and violence. I read this because it was on Obama’s list of books from 2023. The story was excellent! Don’t get me wrong. Titus is a likable character who just wants to be a good sheriff and he is! The topics in this story are just so serious. I don’t think I would have read it if I had known. Reading through it though it was good and i loved figuring out who the killer was! Definitely a good story just very heavy.

Thrilling, mysterious and I couldn’t see any of it coming. I really enjoyed the ride. This author is someone who can weave in social commentary so beautifully with real life, gore, and small town life. He never misses. Highly recommend. The ending and whodunnit lost .25 for me because it felt not connected. But still, read this book!!!!

From the first chapter, I was engrossed in Cosby's writing style as I watched Sheriff Titus Crown don his uniform, badge, radio, and gun. He was quickly called to Jefferson Davis High School and came face-to-face with an active shooter. The story evolved as threads were unraveled to reveal that one of Charon's own might be a serial killer. Unfortunately for me, the suspense simply did not extend past the first few chapters. There was a lot of talk of the townspeople's political and religious views, and I found this to be entirely distracting from the race to find the Last Wolf. I did not find myself thinking about this book when I wasn't reading it, and I wasn't dying to pick it up every free moment I got. I think this is one of those rare instances where a television show might be better than the book. Sorry, Cosby!
