I read this book over several weeks to my son in our church's library when he couldn't sit still and quiet during the Sunday morning sermon.

It had been years since I last read One Wintry Night--in fact, all I remembered of it was one picture: that of an angel holding a flaming sword, barring the gates of Eden to Adam and Eve.

That picture did not disappoint, nor did any of the others. Nor did the narrative. This is a book I would certainly read to my children come Christmas time…or Easter time…or anytime.

My pre-K students were mostly too young to really understand the Biblical narrative, but they loved the illustrations. Just looking at the picture of Christ on the cross led to a host of questions: why did Jesus die, how did it happen, why didn’t he fight back, and, ultimately, why did he choose to die?

I read this book to my 2 1/2 year old daughter, and while the story didn't capture much of her interest - it's a bit long for her - it certainly captured mine. This is a great account of familiar Bible stories from creation until the time of Jesus. The stories are told in much more detail than in the Bible, which really draws you in and helps you to understand what the people were going through. On top of that, the illustrations are AMAZING, and my daughter and I both enjoyed finding the different animals in the Garden of Eden and in the underwater scene from the Noah's Ark story. I originally checked out this book from the local library, but now I'm planning on buying it so we can read it for many years to come.

A wonderful Christmas (or anytime) story!

My favorite Christmas story! Besides the Bible version of course. I read this every year before Christmas. Has some gorgeous illustrations too.

This is by far my favorite Christmas read for my students. It is an absolute joy to read it aloud over the course of a week or two. The art work is stunning.

Someone gave this book to my parents as a Christmas present the year that I was born and I've read it many Christmases since. This book has the most stunning illustrations I've ever seen in a book and it's so nice to get it out with my Christmas decorations and have a look through every year.

This is a story inside a story. A boy stays at a stranger's house when he can't get home in the snow. And she tells him the story of the true meaning of Christmas. \n\nThe story starts at the beginning in the Garden of Eden, carries, through God's plan for the Israelites, and to Jesus' death and resurrection. It's told in a simple yet engaging manner.\n\nThe illustrations are absolutely beautiful.
