I appreciate I'm probably not the target audience for this book and its aimed at a younger audience BUT. I found it incredibly preachy and twisting itself around to maintain an "all sexualities are valid" perspective, which results in quite a few contradictions across the text. The haunted house visual metaphor is barely used because beyond a general "we're haunted by historical constructions of sexuality that serve to oppress us" vibe. I also think it doesn't make good use of what a graphic text can do because the format is just... sentences with pictures dotted around...

I also didn't like how the mouths were drawn.

Covers so much, which made it a little bit of a denser read than expected, but that works nicely in a lot of ways! It gets into so many diverse aspects of sexuality and how we think about it, and provides a great starting point for further study as well.

Well written and clear, although the authors use academic language throughout. I can see why they did, but if you need a more basic guide to Sex Ed it is best to start elsewhere. This books ties together sexuality, history, politics, economics, and even ecology to show us why we are the way we are and how to change for the better (and to avoid changing for the worse).

This was a really informative and fun graphic novel that really dissects and explores every part of our sexuality - both in the modern day and throughout history. I really loved the beautiful illustrations and I think that the graphic novel medium worked really well. My main issue with it was that I think it tried to do too much for the length that it is and quite a bit of it felt underdeveloped - each topic only takes up a page or so and I think some things needed more explanation than they got, and so a lot of it went over my head.

Thanks to Netgalley and Icon Books for an e-ARC copy in return for an honest review!
