i thought this book was supremely boring, but i also don't know if that's the novel's fault or if it's mine because i was just not in the right state of mind to read a classic. anyhow, i guess we'll never know!

"I was determined that in fiction anyway two men should fall in love and remain in it for the ever and ever that fiction allows, and in this sense Maurice and Alec still roam the greenwood."

Eén van de beste vertellers in de Engelse literatuur. Het thema lag me meer dan A Room with a View en las ook veel vlotter dan dat. Vergelijk zeker met Kuzmins Vleugels.

Might bump this up to a 4.75 or 5 upon further reflection; I kinda want to re-read immediately? Such a beautiful love story. I love E.M. Forster’s writing so much.
So excited to rewatch the movie now that I understand the three main characters better. I didn’t like the ending the first time, but in the context of the book it’s kind of perfect. The Cambridge bit is still my favorite part - the way Clive and Maurice see each other is SO ROMANTIC! - but I also appreciate the “happy ending.”
