KH is such a great writer / story teller. I was worried at first about this novel because it's a hefty one and it's not my go to genre. So I was worried I wouldn't get into it. But it sucked me right in! The time period, the people, the lifestyle, the landscape. I found it all fascinating and felt so immersed in it. I did find some of the more lengthy and reoccuring descriptions of the Alaskan landscape and some of the very stupid decisions made along the way annoying at times. But each time I quickly got over it as the story progressed. I actually did love this book! (Though maybe it's because I've always had a curiosity about the homestead life and have been DYING to visit Alaska die yearsssss haha)

The only reason I wouldn’t give this book a full 5 stars is because it’s pretty slow in the beginning. It took me about 200 pages to really get into it, but past that point I absolutely could not put it down!

I am so glad I listened to everyone recommending this book.

This was such an incredible read and I truly don’t think I have any complaints. Usually with long books (this one was 545 pages) I finish and think “that could have been 100 pages shorter and it wouldn’t have lost any of the substance,” but I think this one could have been longer! The final few chapters were more like a flash into the future but I would have loved some stories about their lives together.

The characters were done so beautifully. The imagery and descriptions of life in Alaska felt so real and tangible. The secondary characters were all done so well. The development and wrap up at the end was just perfect.

This was my first Kristin Hannah but it def won’t be my last!

While slow moving at first, once I got into this book, I was fully immersed. It was a wonderful and sad story. I thankfully am not experienced with domestic violence, but I think the author did a great job of highlighting the conflicting emotions of fear and love that results in people becoming trapped in toxic relationships.

Loved this book from start to finish, couldn't put it down. The description of the Alaskan wilderness makes you feel as if you are there. Totally mesmerising, can't wait to read Kristin Hannah's other books.
