This book was amazing. This is a really Marc Levy's style book, with a little bit of magic, a little bit of insanity and lots of love. To some people the book is confusing and hard to follow but to me the book is easy to understand, build up the story really logical and also funny in a really scholar way.

It's mind-blowing. The ending is so unexpected. I truly recommend this book to everyone.

This book is really terrible: sappy romance combined with underdeveloped characters, second-rate villains, vapid female characters, a convoluted and flawed fantastical storyline, and frequently bad writing. I rolled my eyes so many times while reading this book that I thought they were going to get stuck that way. (For example, Levy loves to describe scenes of women making a huge mess while trying to figure out what to wear to demonstrate how charming and in love they are with their men. And describing what they are wearing to demonstrate how elegant they are. And having them notice a man's quirks to show how perfect they are for their men. And little to no actual personality development of the women except for how they're reflected by the men. Bleh) It's like watching a bad Katherine Heigel movie, so I guess, if that's your thing, maybe this book is for you. However, if French is not your first language, Marc Levy provides good practice because he's fairly easy to read. I'm pretty rusty and unpracticed, but after the first 50 or so pages, I was reading along at a good pace that wasn't too far off my speed in English.

Reading this book I kept thinking it seemed like a sort of goofy-TV movie, maybe on the Lifetime Channel. The story of a love that lasts through the ages, a secret painting that holds a secret, reincarnation, cult-like university classes in the supernatural, super crazy old women leaders of said cult. I didn't much buy the love story--but who doesn't enjoy coming along while people discover secret rooms in their old houses, or old journals, or writing that only appears when the moon hits it just right?
