It provides a good overview and examination of climate change during the 16 and 17th centuries, the little ice age. My one complaint is that sometimes he gets bogged down in one specific time or person and it feels a bit like we lose the thread of the book. His chapters te very long but they have multiple headings within them. He didn’t focus on the environmental aspect as much as I would have liked but in examining the changes that occurred because of it he did a good job. I liked that he included many philosophers I hadn’t heard of and wove their stories into how climate change affected Europe. I liked that he looked at the pogroms, albeit briefly, and the rise of trade and the slave trade, and how he hit on the apparent hypocrisy of many philosophers at the time, including Locke.
