first half was harder to get through, boring in parts, i have other favorites from in between the wars era, but the story itself is heartbreaking. i can't help, but think about all the couples who died of similiar consequences. a story i will remember, that's for sure.

This book is very... I don't even know how to describe it in a single word. I have read it already, about two years ago and I remember kinda enjoying it except for the ending, which is weird. But now I had to read it as a required reading for school and I don't know what's up with the fact that whenever I have to read something for school, I don't like it?

I can't really say I hated it or that it annoyed me. The book was too short for that and thankfully it only took me two days to read. But as I was reading it now, I noticed so many things I apparently ignored those two years ago.

First thing. It's such an insta love and cliché. So a guy sees a girl in the metro, he thinks about how beautiful she is, grabs her hand because you apparently take strangers by the hand and then magically few days afterwards, he sees her again? And she's immediately infatuated by him too because it's not creepy for a stranger to hold your hand. Also the fact that Pierre and Luce had to be perfect for each other, despite being seventeen and wanted to marry each other, despite knowing for a few weeks?

Second thing. The writing style was so weird. So I get that the author wanted some kind of a "poetic" writing style but it didn't really work. Because all of the descriptions sound so weird. You keep hearing about how Pierre and Luce were silent "but their hearts spoke with each other".

Third thing. The uneccesary scenes. And that's kind of surprising because it's supposed to be a novella. But the story couldn't actually focus more on the two main characters (who were suddenly in love?) but there needed to be an uneccesary scenes about Pierre's friends. About Pierre's family. About Pierre's brother. And don't get me even started on the weird first kiss between Pierre and Luce through a window!

I can't really say that it's completely bad. It's short, some scenes are fun but I just can't get over how cliché it is.
