Some of the poems are nice enough on their own. I liked “The Wind,” “The Moon,” and “The Land of Storybooks...”
But altogether I’d say this book is overly saccharine and unmemorable. I do not recommend reading it cover to cover. It’s just too sappy.
It is admittedly impressive to think that Stevenson wrote all this one-handed, while bedridden, in old age.
The illustrations by Tasha Tudor are charming and whimsical. I smiled to see lot of little corgis included in the artwork - the artist’s favorite dog.
I’d also like to note that there are a few poems that definitely did not age well. I’m sure “Foreign Children” was thought to be very cute in Victorian nurseries, but it just reads as cringe-worthy now. “Little Indian, Sioux or Crow, Little Frosty Eskimo, Little Turk or Japanese, O! Don’t you wish that you were me?” Yikes.

This was a childhood book I decided to read again. Still cute.
