This was good, but I definitely liked Mexican Gothic more.

I liked the story, but I found the characters to be flat. The ending was also pretty disappointing.

This book was a wild ride with very Gothic vibes. I couldn’t put it down I finished it in one day.

This book is what I would consider a great vampire book for someone who is more serious about Vampuric Lore. if you’re looking for cheesy vampires in flowing capes who drain young virgins, then this book is absolutely not for you. this book is more true to the “true” tales of vampires and how they assimilate into the human world.

Set in Mexico City the book follows a young vampire who used to be what would amount to a vampire debutant. After her family is murdered by a vampire lead drug cartel she is on the run for taking her revenge. You get to learn about different types of vampires and genetically modified dogs. It has a great taste of sci-fi with a overall Gothic scene. You can almost feel the dark vibes within this book as you read. Gracing us with a strong female lead, you get to watch this person learn about who they are, deal with family issues, adapt to twists and turns in her plot and establish new relationships with people she’s never had to have relationships with before. All while being hunted down with the intention of torture and murder in the backdrop. It’s a thrilling ride and I could not get off of it.

I love the writing style of SMG and that’s what kept me hooked on this book even if it was more YA oriented it seemed. Vampires in Mexico is a great concept. I loved the vampire mythology that she built into it and made it very easy to follow. The mini love plot that’s woven into the main characters was more annoying than anything else for me but I did find myself rooting for them just as much as I was annoyed by them. The ending was fine, but not as satisfying as I would want it to be.

You had me at Vampires in Mexico. Plus there is a dog. What more could a girl want?
