I read this in one weekend, three sittings. I couldn't put it down. Truly love Tretch, the relationships, and effortless dialogue. I'm excited to see what else Walton brings to the world!

I won this book through a "FirstReads" contest on this site. I received this book at about 11 0'clock at night. I stayed up all night reading and finished about 3 in the morning.
This book was amazing.
First off, seeing that I read this entire novel, albeit not a long one, in just four hours it is obviously addictive. I'm not saying that the story is incredibly original: a gay boy is in love with his straight best friend and has to figure out what to do; but the characters are truly amazing.
In my opinion, the main characters are near-perfect. Will Walton has created believable characters in the middle of real-life problems that have actual consequences. The characters act and talk like normal people, they behave like a person you could meet who is in the same situation.
There aren't enough ways for me to say that I loved this book, because of how accurate the characters are. Will Walton is definitely an author to watch.

it was sort of like, the gay protag version of "perks of being a wallflower"? but much better and less pretentious

it's not a Teen Romance book i guess but it was very hopeful.
Spoiler
the guy doesn't get the guy, and he's okay. he's sad but there's a lot of personal growth and the narrative tone is very casual and endearing and sad. read this book while listening to sufjan stevens.
i cried a little but it was a nice coming of age story and heartwarming, in its own way.

There's only one word. Beautiful.
It's been a few years since I've read something that makes me feel like a safe space. The writing is superb and there's a lot of action too, but all in all, the book is beautiful enough that I might want to read it again and again, something I don't like doing a lot.

A simple, slice-of-life story, well-told. No fireworks, gimmicks, high concepts, or swoony romance; just a story about a thoughtful, sensitive 15 year old guy in a small Southern town trying to figure things out about himself and love and the world at a pivotal time in his life. It's a rewarding examination of a young man's emotional life and his relationships with his best friend, his family, and others as he begins the road to becoming an adult. I loved it.
