This was given to me by a friend in high school who said "I hope you like the watercolors." I found it today while cleaning my shelves and realized I'd never actually gotten around to reading it. Sorry Gina. But I do like the watercolors.

I’ve been wanting to start reading in German and I had a bilingual edition of this book sitting on my shelves for ages so I thought it was finally time to pick it up. I had never read anything by E. E. Cummings and had no idea what to expect, so I was very pleasantly surprised when I discovered those four little fairy tales. They are so sweet and strange! I don’t think I could pick a favorite, as they are all so different and each charming in their own way. I’ll definitely reread it in the future, and I am very pleased with this first german reading experience!

Kind, gentle, lovely fairy tales that may make you cry from their sweetness. All the more meaningful when you read the afterword detailing the circumstances under which the stories were written.

The Old Man Who Said "Why" is filled with little turns of phrase that made me smile. The ending was probably the most interesting part with the way it just drops off (literally).
The Elephant and the Butterfly was so beautifully simple. My adult mind kept saying "oh no, I hope nothing bad happens, I hope nothing bad happens." But you know what? It doesn't. Just goes to show you what all that literature has done to my brain. I can't even anticipate a sweet perfect story.
The House That Ate Mosquito Pie may sound dreadful, but it's another tale that is just so sweet that I can barely describe my affection for it in words!
And Finally, The Little Girl Named I is a funny play on words all the way through.
Each and every story is very sweet. Definitely one of my favorite books.

Four delightful tales full of Cummings's usual whimsy and playfulness.
