Told from Will’s point of view during season one, the comic gives a perspective on what happened that we don’t get and can only guess. I assume this comic’s canon. It feels canon. I believed that I was reading from Will’s POV, especially when it overlapped the storytelling with the Dungeons & Dragons stuff that they’re all so into. That felt authentic to me based on Will’s character.
I was a little surprised at how strong and enduring they made him, but in hindsight, Will’s character is much stronger than I think he gets credit for. I mean hell, he spent the first season tucked away in the Upside Down and the second being possessed by the demogorgon. So no surprise the strength was a surprise. But with the character development from later seasons, this retcon does make sense. While this comic came out between seasons 2 and 3, I wouldn’t be surprised if the authors and illustrators had a little bit of secret info for Will’s future character development before creating this. That’s not an uncommon thing for IP works.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all the Stranger Things side stories I’ve read, and THE OTHER SIDE is no exception. The art was great and fitting with the series, and I really enjoyed seeing more of Will’s story, one I think that has been neglected for a lot of the series.

This Stranger Things comic is about the perspective of Will while he's in the upside down. I love that throughout the comic, it was jumping back and forth between the 4 boys playing D&D and Will in the upside down; how he was relating the game they love so dearly to his experience and using it to help him through this extremely traumatic and terrifying experience.

Three stars feels a little generous, but why not? Filling in the other side of the season 1 story, Houser manages an effective narrative style accompanied by engaging art. However, the overall volume doesn't really add anything to what we already had and feels kind of flighty and empty in its execution.
But it's a quick enough read that I don't regret picking it up.

I finished this book in less than 30 minutes and would not recommend picking up. For the cost it’s a better idea to get a Netflix subscription for a month, watch the show, and then cancel the subscription. All it’s good for is a summary but you could google what happens if you forget. It was surely made as a money maker for Netflix.

“Stranger things. El otro lado” narra la historia de Will cuando estuvo en “el otro lado” mientras los protagonistas de la serie de Netflix titulada con el mismo nombre le estaban buscando. Si no has visto la serie no tiene mucho sentido así tal cual, pero yo os la recomiendo 100% y el cómic también. Me ha gustado mucho el estilo de dibujo y la capacidad que tiene de meterte en la historia.
