this was just not really good. like the premise of the fake relationship was already a little shaky for me - just to garner voters for him to become mayor???? bro- like wtf. and then it just kept getting worse: first they're fake dating, then they're in a fake engagement, and THEN they're getting fake married?!?! WTF. like it just kept escalating and it was like all for what? like it was too much. also the like emotional connection between them was nowhere to be seen - like emmett just wanted to f*ck her, that's it. and being in his POV really just made me not like him one bit. ALSO- the whole "are you gay? because you've never made a move on me" - like what the actual f*ck. that made me hella uncomfortable, ngl. and to be honest, i wasn't avery's biggest fan either. ughh, i didn't have a great time with this and contemplated DNFing several times, but alas i did finish it.
what did i like? the small town was pretty cool - not my favorite, but i've read worse for sure. i also liked his brothers & want to read their books - especially wyatt and hannah's book.
⚠️: abandonment, gaslighting, misogyny, vomit, chronic illness, homophobia, sexism, animal death
