This work follows the English Ultimatum. It is an attack on the Bragança dynasty, in the figure of D. Carlos: "The state is the king. There is only one citizen: D. Carlos. The duties are ours, the rights are his. The ideas strangle me, break me in. the drawer, or cut my neck, as you please. Justice is a watch that he delays, advances or stops, according to his wishes. Decrees the law and appoints the judge. Parliament is his whim".
