Good

It is nice to have a bit of background on Alexander and how life was for him growing up poor.

Short and sweet. This is just a beginning novella to the series but it was cute. In a short amount of time you could start feeling for the characters in the book. It's obviously geared towards a younger audience, but I'm looking forward to reading the rest of this series.

I did not want to read a book about merpeople. But now I want to read LOTS of books about merpeople--provided those books are written by this author. Loved the world. The characters felt very real. I want more! (I suppose you could say...I want mer.)

This is a short read, but a great introduction to the series and a great opportunity to get a feel for this author's writing and the world she's created. For the record, I'm keen to see where the series goes! The underwater world has captured my imagination, the characters have my attention, and I love the way the author has totally embraced the world she had created in her word choices and the way her characters speak.

Enjoyable fast-paced novella that sets the world up nicely. Looking forward to reading Breakwater.
