Book was eh. It was interesting to read in this current political climate. Shows, from the perspective of a Jewish writer, how ruthless Israel has been to Palestine for the entirety of its brief existence. The General arc didn't really make sense and the mapmaker cameo also seems inconsequential. Z and the guard were the most entertaining portions of the novel by far.

I enjoyed this as an audio book. I might not have liked is it as much in print. For some reason audio is easier for me if the story is disjointed. Also the audio was read by one of my favorite voice actors, Mark Beamhall. Beautiful & elegant writing. Fans of intricate spy craft may enjoy this.

Englander is too good to fall flat on his face. Still, the troubled birth of his second novel is very much in evidence.
