Normally I hate dramatized audiobooks, but this was the only audio version of this book I could find. The sounds were mostly distracting for me, but it wasn't too bad. Thankfully, the voice acting was great. I'm not sure I would've found this book as funny as I did without the skill in the delivery.

It's refreshing to get a female lead who is 40 and pretty much sick of everyone's shit. Sometimes it was a bit heavy handed, which felt off because the target audience for this book doesn't need a drawn out explanation of the trials of being a woman in modern society. Let us laugh and cry WITH the protagonist, not sit through a misogyny 101 lesson.

I'd recommend this book if you're looking for a light and funny romance that doesn't try to be something it's not. It's brain candy with magic thrown in. And really, who doesn't want to inherit a creepy magical houseā€½

This book was such a wonderful time and I cannot wait to read the next in the series! I would almost describe this as the middle-aged character equivalent of cozy, fantasy, young adult books. It reminded me so much of reading the fantasy books I used to read as a kid, just, a bit more adult with older characters, more mature opinions and perspectives, and some good cursing. I also really enjoyed that this book wasn't too long and didn't drag anywhere, so it felt like an easy and comfortable read. The writing style was lovely and easy to follow, I loved all of the diverse
magical creature
characters, and I loved getting to finally see a middle-aged woman as the female lead. I would easily reread this book just for an easy fantasy read.

I can't wait to see where this story goes in the rest of the series!

I loved this book! I picked it up in February and couldn't really get into it for some reason, so just put it to the side. I finally decided to go back in November and finished it super fast! I absolutely loved the characters and their humor. The main character's approach to Midlife is refreshing and inspiring. Definitely will have to read the whole series. Solid fantasy book.
