This book was an assigned reading for one of my classes, and much to my surprise, it read like a novel. As a counselor-in-training, I found Yalom's 10 tales about his issues of countertransference and judgment of his clients to be fascinating. When Yalom wrote these stories, he was in his mid 50's and already decades into his practice, so I was quite amazed by his level of self-disclosure and lack of boundaries, both with his patients and the reader. Ultimately, I believe this book, in addition to being a great read, can be a great teaching tool of mainly what not to do as a therapist, but there were moments where I felt Yalom exhibited brilliance as well.

Very informative, but can be difficult to read at times because the honesty shown in this book. Burg from the honest feelings of his patients and how he honestly reacts in turn

Rereading this book, I realized Yalom is a presumptuous judgmental a-hole who is completely unapologetic for his lack of empathy towards the patients he doesn't like!

Fascinating case studies for any one wanting to work or working in the counseling field. One of the texts we had to read for grad school that I actually wanted to sit down and read.
