Solid crime story from Tardi. His art is fantastic at conveying action and the story telling in his art is spectacular. A few shaky scenes and lines of dialogue, but an overall great product.

A great little crime story. I love the cyclical nature of the ending, and I love how nobody seems to really like the protagonist. It's almost funny at times.

What really makes it work, though, is Tardi's cartooning. He's absolutely fantastic, using architecture in wildly fascinating ways, and he really understands how to make the eye move.

Another extremely hard boiled graphic novel adaptation by Tardi of a novel by Manchette. A well worn premise of a burnt out hit man completing what he planned to be his last assignment, being followed by his former employers, and eventually cornered into completing just one job -- which goes badly wrong. And a lot of bodies and mayhem along the way.

Like West Coast Blues, also a Tardi adaption of a Manchette novel, it works well in the relatively sparse black-and-white illustrations. And is probably a better way to experience the work than reading Manchette's actual novels, at least based on the one actual novel of his I've read.

Contract killer Martin Terrier plans on completing one final assassination then retiring to a quiet life alongside his long lost girlfriend. As these things often go, his employers have a different idea. Reminiscent of the classic Michael Winner-helmed and Charles Bronson-starred The Mechanic, Tardi's follow up to his acclaimed adaptation of the Manchette crime novel [b:West Coast Blues|6621343|West Coast Blues|Jacques Tardi|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1251248786s/6621343.jpg|6815511], Like A Sniper Lining Up His Shot ([b:La Position du tireur couché|248681|The Prone Gunman (City Lights Noir)|Jean-Patrick Manchette|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1173122416s/248681.jpg|240957]) delivers a superior sequential thriller. Violent, sexy, and littered with enough shocks to excite the most hardened crime fiction fan, Tardi once again produces one of the finest examples of the genre.

Jacques Tardi is one of my very favorite authors and this adaptation of Manchette's book is amazing.
