This book reminded me of one of my favorite shows, Criminal Minds. Really good book. Zoe Bentley is a pretty fun character. Marvin is the GOAT.

Good enough to re-read!

This is my second time reading this series starter, and it was definitely even better the second time around. Omer does an excellent job drawing you into the mind not just of the killer(s??), but of the forensic psychologist hunting him as well!

Like many others, I got this as my Kindle First for July. I didn't have a lot of expectations going on and was pleasantly surprised. I would give this a solid 3.5 stars and I look forward to the next book in the series. Omer did a good job of giving us enough detail about the serial killer and the murders without being egregious.

If you love the tv show Criminal Minds, this is a good book for you. I have always been amazed by FBI profilers. The main character here is Zoe Bentley, an almost prodigal FBI profiler. She is better at jumping in the mind of a serial killer than having normal relationships/friendships. Despite being socially awkward and having an uncanny ability to understand a killer's mind, she is equally adept at feeling the pain and suffering of the victims.

For me, Zoe was a great character. I loved learning about her backstory and how she became a profiler. It was almost better than the story of the serial killer she is hunting in present day. I liked that Omer created a character who is influenced by pieces of her past without realizing it. It made her more relatable. The addition of Tatum was a good yin-yang to balance Zoe's clinical bedside manner. Tatum has all the charm and looks. I hope in future installments this doesn't became a scapegoat to not fully flesh out these characters. I would hate to see Zoe never evolve from being the smart, but socially awkward girl who needs Tatum to help her navigate the world. And for Tatum to stay stuck in his just another pretty face role.

Overall this is a good read. If you are a fan of crime procedurals, this is a solid read. The story is fast paced. There is good character development. There are some good twists. A solid backstory. And a little carrot at the end. I am excited to see where Zoe Bentley goes from here.

Loved it! Classic true crime thriller. I guessed who the killer was but that didn't ruin or take away from the story for me because I still want to find out all the little details.
