I debated writing a review because there isn’t much I can add beyond the blurb, the book was very enjoyable and very much what I expected. Read the description (hint “piercing political commentary”) if it doesn’t sound like your cup of tea maybe just don’t read it instead of reading 1 page and giving it a shit rating because it wasn’t for you. That’s like giving a coffee shop a bad review because you don’t like coffee. What a waste of money! They gave me coffee! I hate coffee!

Also to the folks that take issue with her voice being in her generation’s parlance, find yourself a teenager and have a conversation or two with them. After what you hear done to the English language, this author will sound like an elder stateswoman. No cap.

Roberson attempts to challenge our current ideals of national parks and our concept of nature in the US. Roberson attempts to cover so much - but lacks proper supporting evidence to build a solid argument and instead whines for ~300 pages (or 8.5hrs of audio).
I am sure this book has a target audience, and I am sure I am not included. This should have been a DNF.

Is oversharing humor ? Is having a mental breakdown humor ? Is untreated mental illness humor ?

I appreciated that the author enjoyed her experience, shared with us the beautiful moments of the National Parks, but also mentioned how problematic some aspects of the park system and the US (and climate change etc) are. It has some little funny bits, although not super funny, it showed personality and that is a highlight. It also mentioned parks I was not familiar with and ones I’d been to before! It is very satisfying to have somebody else enjoy somewhere that you love as well. This book makes me appreciate the road trip my family and I went on when I was 10 and makes me want to take another big one again. I admire the author for this big adventure. I feel inspired by her solo travel (which I also love to do) and I’m glad she didn’t get murdered.

This was very much For Me but I can see how it wouldn't be for everyone.
