I liked this book however the storyline with the darkness was a little weird. I did like how there was one big location that most of this book took place at but yet still like 5 problems happening at the same time.

I read the first 2 books in my middle school book club and the kids were riveted! A tense and impactful read-aloud. By the 3rd book though, I was so tired of the story. Some kids went on to finish the entire series but I just felt it was getting boring and all this gore was being thrown in the keep the readers attention. I guess I am not a series person. The first book was the best.

The short and snippy sentences can be a little hard to get through sometimes. But I feel the writing style translates certain emotions exquisitely.
The characters of the books are young. Their attention spans short and the minds over run with distress, ptsd and the surrounding apocalypse.
The sentences keeps the pace of the book going. No flowery stops, simply taking you from a to b quickly and without remorse.
Despite the limited word count for sentences I feel like Michael Grant creates a beautiful and full world. Starting Lies immediately!

Changed my rating from 4 to 5 stars after this reread. It gets the extra star for the intricate weaving of multiple plot lines and complex growth the core characters had to achieve; which they did.

This series is so addicting. I mean, they're not the best books I've ever read but my god I have to know what happens next and why this stuff is going on in the first place. I haven't really gotten attached to the characters but that does not inhibit my enjoyment much, which is weird. I think this series is like a bag of potato chips, not good for you but you have to get to the end because it tastes so good.

Calling this book a page-turner is an understatement. I devoured this, and its predecessor, in less than 5 days, which is super fast considering everything else I've done in those 5 days.

Just like Gone, Hunger had me on the edge of my seat the entire way through.

The first half of Hunger had me a little worried. Without the shock of the initial event, and the enjoyment of the children discovering their powers Hunger seemed a little dull. Grant makes up for everything in the second half with some of the best super-powered action in novel format. Nuff said
