Glass Sword picks right up where Red Queen left off and I found myself digging into the deep recesses of my brain to try to remember exactly how Red Queen ended and all the little details in between. Makes me wish I had reread it before Glass Sword.
We open with Mare and Cal escaping from Maven's grasp with the help of the Scarlett Guard. Teaming up with Farley, Kilorn, Shade and Cal, Mare goes in search of other New Bloods like herself. Newbloods - Reds who possess the powers of Silvers. Goal: Find them before Maven does. Not only are Mare and Cal being hunted by Maven, but the Newbloods are as well. The new King of Norta won’t let anything threaten his reign. Oh did I mention Mare had to so this as sneaky as possible since she and Cal have been labeled traitors to the crown? Fun times.
We got to see a lot more of Norta in this book, and met a lot of Newbloods with crazy abilities, some willing and not so willing to join the cause. We get to see a deeper side to Farely and Kilorn. We also get to see another side of Mare then we saw in Red Queen. She begins to realize not everything is as simple as she once thought it was, every thing has become more complicated. She begins to realize she can’t save everyone. It starts to change her; she becomes harder, more driven and a little ruthless at times. She realizes how impossible it is to please everyone. I didn’t always like her throughout this book, but that’s what made her more real. She started to kind of lose it and it reminded me of Katniss in Mockingjay. It will be interesting to see how her character continues to develop in the next two books in this series.
Yes there is going to be TWO MORE!
Not quite sure how I feel about that… I feel like there may have been enough unanswered questions and lose ends for one book to take care of.. if its Harry Potter sized, but I really don't want to read through another book draaaaaging the storyline out into the fourth installment. Glass Sword definitely had second book syndrome going for it. I loved Red Queen, I felt like there was never a dull moment, the writing was amazing, the characters and their powers always kept you guessing, throw in a secret resistance and then BAM! PLOT TWIST! Glass Sword starting with action in escaping from Norta…. Then we fly around picking up Newbloods….. Intense action scene……. then BAM! Cliff Hanger. It still had beautiful writing but it didn’t quite have the pull that Red Queen had. Honestly at times I kinda zoned out while I was reading and had to reread pages over again. I have no doubt that the next book will pick up the tempo quite a bit with the way that Glass Sword left us with our mouths hanging open, it just has to! I just hope both books can keep it going without slumping again.
All in all I would give Glass Sword a 3.5, mostly due to the last fourth of the book. It was good, just not Red Queen good. Higher hopes for the next installment!

It was a filler book but needed. Not as good as the first one but I did enjoy it. I did like (even though it annoyed me) Mare’s character development. Yes, I said development. It may be backwards development and she is trusting all the wrong people, but I liked it. That was probably refreshing for this kind of book, even though frustrating.
But I really am tired that she (and other YA heroines) are worried about who to end with. Ugh!

Ich weiß nicht so recht, irgendwie hat mich das Buch nicht packen können. Mir war Mare sehr unsympathisch, meiner Meinung nach ist ihr Charakter in diesem Buch extrem arrogant dargestellt worden. Hoffentlich wird es im nächsten Teil besser. :)
