Ok, this is going to be completely full of spoilers, I am just processing the freaking ending.

SpoilerWait, so the Oracle thingy wrote the book? And it was telling the truth as to what really happened? So why are Germany and Japan and stuff still ruling? If the Allies won, as the Oracle said, then why aren't they in charge (or at least not under Nazi rule) like our world is for real? Really confused. But amazed. But confused.

Wish someone had actually finished it after he died before publishing it.

Look I get that this is a famous book, and stylistically quite interesting.

This is my subjective opinion and I'm sure others may enjoy this book but for me it was a bit of a grind. The story swaps between so many different POV's (some only pop up once) that the reader gets a little lost and confused.

I did quite enjoy some of the later passages where things started coming together, but mostly throughout the story I was left thinking "where the fk is this book going".

Good book, gripping and filled with detail in a dystopian take on the world, it's a shame that this isn't quite "finished" and by that I mean this was published posthumously so it has an abrupt ending as well as some of the chapters skip and you don't get the detail in between.

Nonetheless, this is a great book, the TV series too, I would recommend them both

3 1/2 stars. Interesting view into what the world would be like if Germany and Japan had won WWII. Our world today has a lot about it that's depressing, but I found this alternative scenario more depressing. The writing was a bit distracting with the way some of the characters spoke and thought, and I would have liked to have seen some of the characters brought together a bit more at the end. All in all, a book that makes you think. I'm going to try the Amazon series now and see how they translated the book into a show.

While having an endlessly interesting premise (sci-fi alternate history like this is a rare treat I feel) and fleshing it extensively, it also gets drowned in pseudo-philosophical ideas, that aren’t as interesting to read as the rest.
