This book is sort of how I think devout Christians imagine pegging to be.

On the real though, loved the descriptions of the illness, especially as someone who has very thin, irritable skin and thus found it entirely too relatable. I just think some of the narrative was a little hard to follow, which wasn’t helped by the flowery language. That being said, I think it was a deliberate choice to keep things mysterious, so not a huge issue.

I liked the pacing. The book is exactly long enough with a good balance between exposition and dialogue. However, much of it went over my head (I think) and I feel like I didn't get out of it what I needed to.

A very neat short book. Surprisingly romantic to me, at the end. Don’t read if you can’t handle some body horror, but honestly it didn't feel like it was presented for shock factor, I felt sort of how Louise did about it - chill, not disgusted, it was just another part of the story. I felt like the sentences were hard to parse at the beginning, took a few pages before I got the hang of it, and things got way more fluid as I read on.

Great, short read! I loved the way Louise describes Edward's wilting body, it felt so tender despite the blunt horror of it all. I also like that the
flower? entity? entity's
origin wasn't fully explained, it's usually scarier that way. :^)

That said, I would not do all that for a husband like Edward LOL. Still a good read! 👍
