"Looked at this way, his worst enemy as an investigator was time."

I've been meaning to try one of his books ever since I read and loved the first book of the Alexander Blix and Emma Ramm series he wrote together with Thomas Enger... Dregs is actually the sixth William Wisting book, but somehow the first five books have never been translated into English (I really don't understand why publishers do that to be honest). Anyhow, I did feel that something was missing by not having read the previous books, and I struggled to warm up to the main character as a consequence. I just never felt a real connection with William Wisting, and it was harder to fully invest myself in the story. I was a bit underwhelmed by the developments and explanation of what is is happening in his private life as well; this might just have been because of the fact that the previous character development and therefore possible sympathy towards the main character was missing... But since I don't understand Norwegian and can't read the first five books, I guess I will never know. I also thought the pace was quite slow and the story dragged in points; something I was very surprised by as the series he writes with Thomas Enger is extremely engaging. I kept putting Dregs down to do other things instead, and that is never a good sign... The final twists were quite interesting, but I felt like the story took too long to get there. I will probably still read the next book to see if things improve though.
