Having always enjoyed the old English Arthurian tales, I was greatly excited when I saw this in my local bookstore and managed to get through it in two days. The tales are beautifully written and although at first blush they appear completely separate the heros/heroines and villians bring each of the stories together. The tales deal with all aspects of human nature from the good to the bad via the ugly and blur the boundary between history and legend.

This was pretty interesting. I think I enjoyed some of the earlier tales more than the later ones. Bit of a labouring read, but was still kind of fun and weird. Lots of translation notes too, and I love a good footnote

I read this as part of a book club and it is something I would never have picked up myself but I thoroughly enjoyed.
The first 4 stories were my favourites with some of the later ones being a little long.

A vibrant, highly readable translation. Recommended and a good upgrade to my ageing Penguin Classics version.
