This book is only not 1 star because it has some good romantic moments and a fast moving plot with a strong sense of adventure.

This book contains statements about body image and weight that would be harmful to a young person. This book contains racist prose, focused on glorifying white people as the highest beauty standard.skylacine's review against another edition

There are definitely some racist undertones in this book that shocked me. I was not the same reader that I was and there were a few details that I can't believe I missed. When all of the vampires are coming together Meyers actually writes out that all of the vampires of color look the same and can't be told apart. She goes into great depth detailing the features of the white vampires, but then turns around and says all of the PoC look the same. Heinous, but that's not all; all vampires except for the indigenous ones are described as wearing relatively modern dress. The indigenous vampires are literally wearing loincloths and are described as being the most savage people Bella has ever seen. It is damaging and enforces negative stereotypes.
I'm conflicted because I once loved this series as a kid, but taking a second look has uncovered some pretty ugly sentiments.

At one point, Bella says the words "fifty shades of grey" which might trigger anyone as unfortunate as I to have suffered said spinoff saga at its peak hype u_ululuslittlelibrary's review against another edition

The way Meyer handles Bella’s pregnancy carries deeply anti-abortion sentiments—with the people trying to prioritize Bella’s life being framed as the antagonists. Additionally, solving the love triangle by making Jacob fall in love with a child?? I know that Meyer tries to pretend like it’s not like that but it’s truly insane in my opinion. And with jacob’s perspective we get a healthy dose of misogyny and just a sprinkle of homophobia, so that’s unfortunate.Graphic: Adult/minor relationship, Death, Injury/Injury detail, Pregnancy, Animal death, Blood, Body horror, and Gore
