"You're doing so good for me." Holy god. *fans self*

I love forbidden love stories that feel inevitable. These two were perfection. They met through a hook up app and only got to meet in real life one time before everything falls apart and they end up on the same team. Then due to Navy regulations, they can't even be friends due to their ranks. Clearly that doesn't take but they spend so much time trying and failing to not fall in love.

This was my favorite of the whole series.

07/25/24 re-read. This is my favorite of the series and one that I have read many times. I so love the chemistry between Wes and Dustin, and I love the way their relationship develops, especially as these two face their own challenges in the military and at home.

But the more I read it, the more I wanna smack Curly for
being so dumb. I can't tell if Albert wrote herself into a corner and needed something, anything to use as a catalyst for the MCs' relationship, or if Curly is purposefully written as this dumb. Bc dude, how you thought reporting a relationship between your enlisted peer and his officer partner equates to being a good friend is beyond me.

And every time I read this, I get a little more angry at Apollo and Dylan's
response to Dustin when Dustin finally finds the courage to come out. Unfortunately, it's a thing that happens irl, loved ones feeling hurt and angry bc you didn't come out to them sooner. It happened to me. And it's an absolutely 100% invalid response. Please don't make yourself the main character in someone else's coming out story.

Leaving that aside, this book continues to hit just right. And because it does, I'll likely read again. And again.

This is my favorite Annabeth Albert book so far, I really liked the dynamic between Dustin and Wes.
Despite being the XO and higher ranking Seal, Dustin is a submissive. He feels like his relationships with women haven't been what he's looking for because most women expect a Seal to be more Toppy. Wes and Dustin meet on an online chat group and hit it off, but things go sideways when Wes shows up on Dustin's team as their new munitions specialist.

Greg Bourdeaux can really make an audiobook.

Okay these two guys my god, i was on the back and forth being all happy for them and then wanting to throttle them haha.

i also wanted to know what happened to Sam.. we didn't get much of an update there at the end of the book.

i am excited for the next book though, Greg Bourdeaux is narrating that one and that is what i am most looking forward to!

I found this book okay. Other than the romance the book didn't have much of a plot. I know that it is a romance book and the romance is the main plot but at least have a side plot that is interresting. I also felt as if the romance didn't have high enough stakes. When someone did find out that they are together they didn't care, so all that build up of somethung bad happening if they revealed their romance didn't really work.

So that's why I gave the book 3 stars. I could not relate to the characters or care about them and the romance wasn't high enough stakes. If you have a forbidden romance please make the stakes higher than this book did.

Wow! Wow! Wow! WHEELS UP might tie with OFF BASE as my favorite Annabeth Albert book because it was soooo good. Albert is a master at writing deep and emotional stories and characters that keep you hanging on until the very end. I didn’t want to put this book down for anything and I was completely invested in the story. Both Dustin and Wes are incredible characters and their relationship was the perfect mix of sexy and sweet. They try to stay away from each other but they’re both so compassionate and are always trying to help the other. Everything about this book was perfect and I couldn’t put it down.

This book had a lot of realism included in regards to the military regulations. It made it a lot harder for Wes and Dustin to be together but it also made their moments more poignant. They’re always sure it’s going to be their last time together and that adds a real depth to the interactions. The ending is a bit of a HFN but you know that things are getting better with each day.

I loved Dustin’s character and the dichotomy of his tough appearance and his desire to give up control in the bedroom. Dustin has been struggling with how to tell his family and friends about his bisexuality and I found this storyline really interesting. At the same time, I liked that Dustin wasn’t afraid to explore his bisexuality though he had a few moments coming to accept his particular kinks. He’s devoted to his SEAL team and a strong leader and no matter what the military says he can’t stay away from Wes. Dustin was especially sweet when it came to lifting Wes’s spirits over Sam.

Wes was also an amazing character. He knows he’s found something special in Dustin but he also doesn’t want to put Dustin’s career in danger. He’s always putting others before himself and it’s an incredibly endearing character trait. The scenes with his sister are incredibly sweet and I’d love to get Sam’s story one day *fingers crossed, pretty please*. Wes is also incredibly supportive of Dustin and his moments of boosting Dustin’s confidence were great. I would have liked a little more on Wes’s insomnia. Is it just worry over his sister’s heart condition? Stress from his work in the military? Or something else? I’m just crazy curious so I wanted to explore it further.

Favorite Quotes:

“I’m going to wait for you. However long. Until you get out. If you stay in. Until the statute of limitations on the fraternization runs out. Whatever it takes, I’m waiting. I’m in this and I’m not going anywhere unless you ask me to leave you alone, and then I can do that too. But I’ll still be waiting. Hoping.”
